Every year, approximately 54 million children suffer from lack of essential micronutrients. Also, about 20 million children under the age of five die due to malnutrition related diseases. Even at this very moment, children are dying from starvation and diseases that could’ve been prevented. Through the Healing Leaf miracle, Univera would like to participate in helping save children’s lives worldwide.  Lack of essential micronutrients can jeopardize the life of children

Iodine deficiency can hinder intellectual development and learning abilities or even worse, it can develop cretinism which a serious mental retardation.
If a woman who has iodine deficiency disorder gets pregnant, the possibility of stillbirth of miscarriage is high. Usually, iodine deficiency has something to do with goiter. In 1990, only 30% (1.6 billion people) of the world’s population had shown signs of iodine deficiency after being supplied of Iodized Salt. More specifically, the population that showed signs of iodine deficiency was mostly found in residents living in remote mountain areas or frequent flooded areas where food that consisted of iodine was scarce leading them to use Iodized Salt to prevent iodine deficiency. Iodized Salt is normal salt but including iodine additives. The rate of Iodized Salt use in developing countries nowadays is 69%(1998~2005). There are 84 million newborn infants who are being protected from the risk of iodine deficiency but still, 38 million infants who are born in countries with low rate of Iodized Salt supplementation are facing danger of iodine deficiency.

Vitamin A is vital to our immune system.If we lack of vitamin A, it can not only cause blindness but also diseases such as measles, malaria and diarrhea raising 23% of the normal mortality rate. 100 million~140 million children under the age of five are suffering from VAD and 43 million of them are from the southern part of Africa.
